Drowning Into Darkness

In our continuing effort to teach the world to sing, we here at the Tonto Savalas and Buddha All-Stars blog page are bringing you the award winning album by the Buddha All-Stars, Drowning Into Darkness (that's a real loose version of the word award, my mom said it was the bestest). This is a concept album and considering some of you may not know what the concept of the album is we asked band member Scott Lozon to explain:

You often ask me (at least i've imagined that you've asked me) about the meaning behind some of the Buddha albums, well i just came across one in my mental filing cabinet. Sorry if you don't care or already know, maybe this is as much for me, here we go, in a nutshell (okay maybe a walnutshell), all the buddha albums are about a central character, J, we won't get into the significance behind J's name right now (that's for a later day), well Drowning into Darkness is the story that gets into J's cosmic nature, or at least it leads to the very beginning of that, cosmic may not be the right word, celestial, otherwordly, 4th dimension, oh wait i know, his ability to bend space and time, i guess i got to go forward for this to make any sense. The story/album starts with Jay killing himself, he walks into the water, he's had all he can stand, and he bids this world goodbye, the story then takes place in those fleeting unconcious moments between life and death, he remembers being born and then his childhood passes in a flash, he's already a young man, getting into trouble, tasting the wickedness that this world has to offer, it's all footloose and fancy free, but there are signs pointing to the things that will be his downfall, drunken brawls, objectifying women, drug abuse, then he is a man, he becomes famous and burns out (that's the Wall of Sound album), finally out of the places that held him, he turns to the bottle to ease his weary mind, when he hooks up with a floozy for awhile, they get into a fight and he kills her, tries to hide the body, gets caught, gets sent to the electric chair, they flip the switch...and in those fleeting unconcious moments between life and death, he remembers, he remembers it all, this ain't the first time that he's died and it won't be the last, there's more out there after death, life is just part of the game. This is all to make you a wiser and smarter drinker.

Okay, make of that what you will. Because of space constraints we will be presenting the album one side at a time, with the second side coming in about two weeks. If you would like to stream it, click here. If you would like to go to our host site page and download it click here. As a final note, we would love to hear your feedback on the album or songs that you've listened to, so please leave your comments. Have fun.
